Situated in the heart of the winelands, on Stellenbosch's oldest and most historic street, is the Stellenbosch Hotel. Built on land granted to J.J.Swart by Governor Simon van der Stel between 1692 and 1701, the buildings were restored and declared national Monuments in 1987. The Seafood Restaurant and the Brasserie is named in honour of Jan Cats, an 18th century Dutch barber-surgeon who settled on the premises in 1734. The hotel is centrally located and within easy walking distance of restaurants, cinemas, shopping centers, banks and museums etc.
