1. Historical meeting for churches

Between 5000 and 7000 people attended the first ever gathering of all churches in Stellenbosch for a day of prayer and reconciliation on the Coetzenburg Rugbystadium on 14 October 2001. The meeting was held to commemorate the founding day of the church in this town on 13 October 1686 on the farm Coetzenburg.
A highlight of the day occurred when pastors from all the churches stood in front of the crowd, holding hands, and pledging themselves to reconciliation, co-operation and unity.
The 1000 or so children was given the opportunity to take part in a “kids'games” event of sport and activities and they concluded the day with a colorful procession of flags, banners and balloons.
The program consisted of praise and worship, group dancing, contributions by a mass choir brought together especially for the event and speakers addressing the crowd on the vision of the churches, explanation of basic truths of christianity, and calls to involvement in the broader issues of the community like poverty, unemployment, crime and so on. But the most important aspect of the day was the prime time given to prayer and discussion in small groups on various issues.
This event is se en as the start of a process of ongoing co-operation between churches with the view of making a contribution towards positive transformation of the community.

3. Nuweland Jubelfees

5. Celebration Train!

The special train from Stellenbosch to Newlands was jampacked with singing crowds. Many testify to the fact that a breaching of traditional barriers already took place on the train where believers from all walks of life shared the same experience and discovered that they know and share the same songs and choruses. An overseas visitor who accidentally got on this (wrong) train, asked at some stage: “Do you South Africans allways sing like this on your trains!?”

6. Unique event for Stellenbosch community

About 1000 people from all communities took part in a peace march, called a "march for reconciliation" through the streets of Stellenbosch on Sunday evening 10 December. It has been called the most representative "march" ever held in town as people from all communities, all walks of life and all ages, took part in this colourful event. It followed an ecumenical service that was was called together by the Council for Church Co-operation in Stellenbosch as part of a process of dealing with the legacy of apartheid and creating new vision for the future. Mr Willie Meyer, member of the Town Council and designated mayor called this gathering a 'significant event" and called upon all members of the whole community to follow the example of the churches in working together for a better future.

Once again very welcome to Chris Goddard who joined the Vineyard Christian Church as pastor.
