Local golfers play second fiddle to outside clubsLocal golfers at the Devonvale Golf Club in Stellenbosch played second fiddle to a pair of golfers from the Paarl golf club in Devonvale club's Four Ball Better Ball Bogey Plus Competition played in Stellenboch today.
Hein Botha and Hening van Tonder, both from the Paarl Golf Club, were the eventual winners with a top score of plus eleven.
Close behind them with a score of plus ten was the second placed team of Jeremy de Villers and Henry Dednem from the Devonvale club. The Devonvale club also occupied third place with the team of Deon Joubert and Gert Fontuin, who managed a score of plus eight.
The winner of the nearest to the pin shot was Michael Dixon of the Belville golf club on the 7th hole.
The winners were awarded Pro Shop vouchers worth R200 each. According to the Club's pro shop assistant Donovan Claasen, the event was poorly attended with the local competition usually attracting more than 150 participants. He attributed the poor figure to bad weather which he said makes playing conditions very difficult.
The Single Stableford Winter Knockout Competiton was also completed at the Devonvale club this afternoon. The Finalists were Kevin O Connel and newly elected member of the Boland Golf team, Andre van Jaarsveld. Kevin O Connel eventually won the match one up.
